Please join us on Sunday, October 7, 2012, for our second annual 5K Run Walk, the Race for a Pro State of Mind.  Your support of this event will help us to continue to expand our work in the Central Ohio community.

Prostate cancer is the most common malignancy found in American men.  In fact, a man is actually 33 percent more likely to be diagnosed with prostate cancer than a woman is with breast cancer.  The good news is that while prostate cancer is common, it is also highly treatable when caught early.

The National Cancer Institute estimates that over 241,000 new cases of prostate cancer will be diagnosed in 2012. There will be over 28,000 deaths. That will equate to one death every 18 minutes.

In past years, funds from this event and our annual Par for Life golf outing have funded over 1,200 screenings for underserved and uninsured men.  Our efforts to educate men and their families and pay for screenings are key contributors to the state of men’s health in Central Ohio.

About Central Ohio Men Against Prostate Cancer (COMAPC)

Central Ohio Men Against Prostate Cancer (COMAPC) is a community based, volunteer, non-profit organization. Our mission is to increase prostate cancer awareness and routine screening through education, support, and advocacy across cultural and economic barriers. Our primary focus is to reduce disparities that exist in prostate cancer among minorities and the medically underserved.

Our goal is to help Central Ohio men and their families become more informed about prostate cancer, better informed about treatment options for the disease and encourage men to seek early screening.  COMAPC provides prostate cancer education, outreach and support for men, the friends and families of at-risk men and those diagnosed with prostate cancer.
