How Your Support Helps

Costs for the residents’ basic needs are provided by state and federal funds. However, the provision of those important “extras”, such as communication devices, ambulatory equipment, specialized eating utensils, camping experiences and field trips, all so essential for the full development and well being of each resident, are not provided by these funds. Your support helps to provide these extras by ensuring that the needed financial resources are available so that each of our 213 residents has the opportunity to have “A Life Worth Living”.

Heinzerling Foundation

Founded in 1959, the Heinzerling Foundation, which is located in southwest Columbus, is home to more than 200 individuals with severe or profound mental retardation. Most are non-ambulatory and non-verbal and require complex medical care due to multiple disabilities. Ranging in age from infants to adults, most will spend their entire lifetime at the Foundation. Each resident receives 24-hour care and a comprehensive range of services, unique to his/her abilities, which are provided in a creative and stimulating home-like environment. Children and adults are admitted on the basis of developmental criteria without regard to race, religion, or ability to pay.
