Quick facts
About the Walk for KidsThis is the first annual Walk for Kids at the Ohio State University! The Walk for Kids is a run/walk that is the most important fundraiser for College Mentors for Kids at OSU. College Mentors for Kids is a program that brings a group of first through fourth graders from a local elementary school. Each student is paired with a college student who serves as a mentor and they participate in activities weekly. The main focus of the organization is to promote the importance of education through activities focused on higher education, culture and diversity, community service and economics. All of the proceeds from the Walk for Kids go to College Mentors for Kids. The money earned will go towards improving weekly activities, bussing fees and finances associated with programming. Not only will the proceeds help to raise funds, but it also helps to get the word out about College Mentors for Kids, show recognition to the kids and mentors, and help pave the way for future programs which positively affecting deserving -but often underrepresented- students. Even in its first year at Ohio State, College Mentors for Kids is already proving to have an enormous effect on the lives of both the elementary children and college students. Wonderful bonds have been formed between the mentors and their Little Buddies and while the children learn important lessons about higher education, the college students too are learning new things about themselves and their abilities. Not only do we think we’re doing a great job, but Ohio State has recently given College Mentors for Kids the 2010 Outstanding Student Organization Award and 2010 Outstanding Student Organization Website Award. The Walk for Kids is an excellent way to show support, not only financially, but enthusiastically for a great program. All of the hard work done by the mentors and staff of this organization serves an important cause and has such a significant impact in the community and at the Ohio State University.
