The Ohio State University's ROTC Department is hosting a memorial 5k for Ray Mendoza. Ray Mendoza was a former Ohio State Athlete who served as a Marine Corps Officer and made the ultimate sacrifice for his country during 2005 in Iraq. He left a legacy of leadership and service and The Ray Mendoza Leadership Fund was started in his honor through the John Glenn School of Public Affairs.

The Major Ray Mendoza Leadership Institute initiative will one day be a training ground for societies leaders of tomorrow.  Named in honor of fallen hero and Iraq war veteran Major Ray Mendoza, USMC, the Institute will recruit, train and graduate leaders who – like Major Mendoza – are prepared to dedicate their lives to public service.  The Institute will also be a place where leadership and the qualities of leadership are studied and researched, helping institutions organizations across the country better identify and cultivate leadership within their ranks.  The institute initiative is being implemented in phases.  The first phase is to provide scholarship support to graduate students who have demonstrated leadership abilities.  When fully formed, the Major Ray Mendoza Leadership Institute initiative will be housed at The John Glenn School of Public Affairs at The Ohio State University.

The race is being organized by The Ohio State University ROTC Department with all proceeds going to the The Major Ray Mendoza Leadership Institute Initiative at the John Glenn School of Public Affairs.

Entry Fees

5K Run/Walk: $25 through May 20th and $30 May 21st through race day

5K Run/Walk for Veterans and Students: $20

Awards will be presented to the top 3 overall male and female participants as well as the the first male and female in the following age groups: 19 and under, 20-29, 30-39, 40 and over.
